Dr. Judy Zhu is a registered clinical counsellor and also a registered Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Training and Experience
Judy has a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from UBC, and is a registered clinical counsellor with British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). She is also a member of the Association for Contextual Behavioural Science. Throughout her course of education, she has studied various counselling approaches such as emotion focused approach, cognitive approach, behavioural approach and systemic approach. She has received further training in Interpersonal Therapy and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy).
Dr. Judy Zhu has been in the helping profession for over 16 years. In her private practice of Chinese Medicine and acupuncture for over 16 years, Judy focuses on using a body/mind integrated approach to help people with depression, anxiety, insomnia, stress related health issues and other chronic health conditions to have better physical and emotional well-being. As a counsellor, Judy has worked with clients dealing with issues such as depression, anxiety, life transition, grief and loss, past trauma, career issues, addiction issues, relationship issues, anger management and parenting issues.
Judy Zhu believes that people have strengths and inner wisdom to direct their lives toward their valued directions. However, sometimes in life, you may feel that you are so lost and stuck as if stumbling in an endless dark tunnel with the light at the end of tunnel beyond reach. Her job as a counsellor is to hold a torch and walk with you so that your journey may be easier, you may reach that light sooner, and you may re-discover your own strengths and reconnect with your inner guiding compass. Judy believes that self awareness and self acceptance are key to change, and she strives to provide a conducive environment for you to explore your experience, to increase self-awareness and self-acceptance so that you can heal, change and realize a more fulfilling life. Judy believes the importance of engaging the whole being in therapy, and of contacting the present moment to cultivate self-awareness. Two main principles in her work are mindfulness and holistic approaches of integrating body and mind. Depending on each individual’s presenting issues and their specific goals, she will choose the therapy approach that suits them the best, such as Emotion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy, Person Centered Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy etc. Throughout the counselling process, she also uses different techniques that are drawn from Gestalt Therapy, Solution Based Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Existential Therapy and Family System Therapy etc.
Judy helps people with depression, anxiety, addiction issues, relationship problems, parenting issues, shame and self-esteem issues, career transition, grief and loss, existential issues, and spiritual issues. She also helps couples to improve communication, deepen intimacy and have better relationships. Judy does not fix you or solve your problems for you, but she works with you to re-discover your own strengths and inner wisdom, to fully accept yourself as a perfectly imperfect human being, to connect with what really matters to you, and provide you with tools and support you to move you toward your valued life direction.
Initial Intake: 75 minutes CAD $150
We will discuss your main concerns, the goals you want to achieve through us working together and my therapeutic approaches. This is the time we get to know each other and see if it is a good fit for us to work together.
Regular Individual Counselling Session:
50 minutes: CAD$120
75 minutes: CAD$180
