Osteopathy, Vancouver, BCSuzanne Pineault
Diploma in Osteopathy (Québec), BSc (Nursing), Osteopathic Practitioner

Suzanne graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Université de Montréal.

She worked as a nurse for 17 years in Montréal and Toronto, initially in a hospital setting in the intensive and emergency care units, cardiac care unit and pre and post-surgical care.

She continued her career in a community healthcare centre in Montréal’s inner core delivering at home health care services to the elderly and AIDS sufferers. She broadened her field of work by giving care for the homeless and drug addicts. Finally, she provided expecting mothers and children with healthcare.

A desire for a new challenge led Suzanne to study osteopathy at the Collège d’études Osteopathiques de Montréal. She graduated from the 5 year course in 2003 and she completed her thesis in 2005, her work was entitled: ‘The overall effect of osteopathic treatment on women suffering from stress urinary incontinence’.

As a mother of two, Suzanne has a substantial interest in children’s healthcare. She has consequently undertaken post-graduate complementary training on the osteopathic treatment of developmental problems in children aged 0 to 18 years old. In addition, she completed courses on Brain Gym and Dynamic and Postural reflexes. Finally, to further refine her joint manipulations, Suzanne completed a course on specific adjustment techniques at Montréal’s annual Symposium on osteopathy.

Suzanne uses a variety of techniques in her treatments to ease pain and to help improve the function of organs, back, neck, muscles, ligaments, the cranium and also recommends exercises and gives postural advice.

Suzanne enjoys giving care to the whole family. She treats from newborn to the very elderly.

Suzanne is registered with the Association of Québec Osteopaths.

Melita Glanville
BAppSc (Osteopathy), Osteopathic Practitioner

Originally from New Zealand, Melita qualified from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia in 1993 with a 5 year full time Bachelor of Applied Science in Osteopathy.

Her interest in sports injuries led to her working on the World Cup Luge Circuit for 6 seasons and at 2 Winter Olympic Games.  Teams she worked with included Canada, the US Virgin Islands, Great Britain, and Italy.

She has in depth post-graduate training in cranial and biodynamic osteopathy and is a faculty member of the Sutherland Cranial Teaching Foundation of Australia and New Zealand.  She is currently involved in ongoing study with Dr James Jealous’ biodynamic phases and pediatric biodynamic phases of study (the treatment of children).

Some of Melita’s other post-graduate studies include visceral osteopathy for obstetrics, gynecology, the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts and neurological assessment.

Melita employs a wide range of osteopathic techniques including cranial, (biodynamic and conventional), soft tissue massage, high velocity low amplitude manipulations, visceral, myofascial release, fascial unwinding, functional, muscle energy technique and exercise prescription to offer patients answers to the most challenging of problems.

Having a variety of techniques at her disposal enables Melita to tailor treatments for patients of all ages.  She works with newborns and children right through to the very elderly.

She believes that given the right conditions, the body has an amazing ability to heal itself.  The role of the osteopathic practitioner is to perfect the art of listening to the body’s tissues and to support it where it is trying hardest to correct itself. Combining this with a thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and disease processes the osteopathic practitioner is able to facilitate healing and support homeostatic mechanisms.

Melita’s diverse osteopathic approach is complemented by studies in Brain Gym®, Dynamic and Postural Reflex Integration Therapy and integrative medicine (nutrition and detoxification).

Melita is a member of the Society for the Promotion of Manual Practice Osteopathy (BC), Association Québécoise de Ostéopathes, the Osteopathic Council of New Zealand and the General Osteopathic Council in the United Kingdom.
